
John Thwaites Mus.B.(Hons), GRNCM, PPRNCM, Dip.GSMD
John was educated in St Albans, where he sang as a treble chorister in the Cathedral Choir. He went on
to study on a joint course in the North of England, graduating with a Batchelor of Music Degree from
Manchester University and a Professional Performer’s Diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music.
John then took a postgraduate Advanced Solo Studies Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama
from where he obtained a Concert Recital Diploma (Premier Prix). His teaching career began as a piano
tutor and led to his appointment as Head of Piano and Assistant Music Master at Christ’s Hospital
Horsham, where he conducted the choirs and orchestras over a ten year period. He joined the RSAMD in
1999 as a Lecturer in Piano and he combines his work at the Academy with the post of Course Director
of the Cadenza International Summer Music School. John also conducts the Greenock Philharmonic Choir.
